Recording a source of metadata that is a manifestation that is being described

Condition Option

Aggregate manifestations where there is more than one title page: Do not apply. Instead, use Work: note on metadata work.

Condition Option

Apply.

When determining values of:

  • Manifestation: title of series
  • Manifestation: title proper
  • Work: preferred title of work
  • Expression: preferred title of expression

first consider the following:

Aggregate manifestations: prefer the source with a collective title. If there is no collective title prefer the source where the titles of the aggregated expressions are presented on the same source.

Aggregated works embodied in an aggregate manifestation: prefer a source on the manifestation being described where the title is formally presented. If there is no formally presented title, use any source available on the manifestation being described.

Aggregated expressions embodied in an aggregate manifestation: prefer a source on the manifestation being described where the title is formally presented. If there is no formally presented title, use any source available on the manifestation being described.

Then follow the table of preference in the option.

For values of subelements of:

  • Manifestation: distribution statement
  • Manifestation: manufacture statement
  • Manifestation: production statement
  • Manifestation: publication statement
select the preferred value by following this table of preference:

  1. Use the same source as selected for the value of Manifestation: title proper for the manifestation being described
  2. Use the colophon or publisher's imprint page on the manifestation being described
  3. Use any other source available on the manifestation being described

Scores: See NLNZ guidance.

Sound recordings: Do not apply. Instead consider the following, then follow the appropriate table of preference below.

If there is more than one possible value when selecting a value of:

Then, for physical sound recordings, follow this table of preference:

  1. A textual source on the manifestation or a label permanently affixed to the manifestation
  2. A container of the manifestation
  3. Another source on any part of the manifestation itself, giving preference to sources in which the information is formally presented

Then, for online sound recordings, follow this table of preference:

  1. Album cover
  2. Another source on any part of the manifestation itself, giving preference to sources in which the information is formally presented

For values of subelements of:

  • Manifestation: distribution statement
  • Manifestation: manufacture statement
  • Manifestation: production statement
  • Manifestation: publication statement
select the preferred value by following this table of preference:

  1. Use the same source as selected for the value of Manifestation: title proper for the manifestation being described
  2. Use any other source available on the manifestation being described

Condition Option
