OLAC Best Practice for name of publisher

If there is doubt as to whether a person, corporate body or family is functioning as a publisher or distributor, treat the name as a publisher.

For streaming media, follow PCC Provider-Neutral E-Resource MARC Record Guidelines. Provide the name of publisher that reflects all instances of a resource described in the record. For online reproductions of tangible audio or video, name of publisher should relate to the manifestation as it was published in its original format. For born-digital resources, name of publisher should relate to the earliest online iteration of the resource.

Apply the option. Record the first publisher name found on the manifestation as required; optionally record additional publisher names if deemed important. Record all names in a single field.

Do not apply the option.

Supply publisher function information only if the function is unclear and a more specific term is necessary.
