Policies

LC-PCC policy statements for authorized access point for work

Prerecording

Prerecording

LC/PCC Core for authority records in the LC/NAF.

LC practice: LC does not give "controlled" access points for series in new LC original cataloging bibliographic records, does not update series authorized access points in existing bibliographic records, and does not consult, make, or update series authority records. LC will "pass through" the series information already in bibliographic records used by LC as copy.

PCC practice: Searching for series authority records, creating a Work: authorized access point for work for the series, including when applicable the Work: numbering within sequence, and the creation and maintenance of series authority records are optional.

LC/PCC practice: See the Metadata Guidance documentation: Work elements.

LC/PCC practice: See the Metadata Guidance documentation: Series/Subseries elements.

LC/PCC practice: See the Metadata Guidance documentation: Work: SES: Musical access point for work.

Additional elements for creator of work

Option

LC/PCC practice: Do not apply the option. Construct the authorized access point for work by combining Agent: authorized access point for agent, followed by a period, space, followed Work: preferred title of work. If more than one agent is collaboratively responsible for the work, use the value of Agent: authorized access point for agent corresponding to (in order of preference) the agent having principle responsibility of the work, or the first-named agent. Apply this policy statement for the creator based on the first or earliest volume received of a multipart monograph. Do not change the value of the Agent: authorized access point for agent that is the basis of the Work: authorized access point for work when subsequent volumes indicate additional creators are involved. Record the additional creators, when considered important, with Work: note on work and/or Agent: authorized access point for agent.

LC/PCC practice: See the Metadata Guidance documentation: Work: authorized access point for work: additional elements for creator of work.
