In MARC: Record as an unstructured description using field 264 (second indicator 1) subfield $c. Record as a structured description using bytes 07-10 and/or 11-14 of field 008.

Multiple dates and date types may be encoded in field 008/06 and 008/07-14. Consult OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards for guidance in determining precedence of date type when coding one or more dates in field 008.

  1. a copyright date (© or ℗) that matches a date of manufacture, or

and it seems reasonable to assume that date is a likely publication date, record that date as a value of publication date. In all cases also record dates used to infer a publication date separately using the appropriate element.
