Routinely record the element for tactile music notation. For nonmusical notation, record the element if deemed useful for identification or access.

In MARC: For notated music only: Record as a structured description using field 348 subfield $c. Alternatively or additionally, use field 341 subfield $e along with $a value tactile.
Additionally: Record as an identifier using field 007 (byte 00 value f, tactile material) if deemed useful for identification or access.
If no appropriate structured term is available, or if instructed by local policy: Record as an unstructured description using field 546 subfield $b.

Apply the option if no appropriate controlled term exists.

In MARC: If coding detailed braille music format information (bar-by-bar, etc.) in field 007 (tactile material), provide a human-readable equivalent as an unstructured description in field 500. Record an unstructured description if details of braille format are known even if a tactile 007 is not recorded.
LC/PCC practice: Cataloger's judgment. If the form of tactile notation uses contractions and the level of contraction is known, record a value according to the national practice. Add the level of contraction in parentheses, following the term for a form of tactile notation.
