LC-PCC policy statements for series statement

Prerecording

Prerecording

LC/PCC Core. Manifestation: title of series and Manifestation: numbering within sequenceare core subelements. See other subelements of series statement for coreness pertaining to the resource being described.

LC/PCC practice: Record Work: ISSN as part of a series statement.

LC practice: It is LC practice to record series statements. If the resource being described is in a monographic series, give a Manifestation: series statement for the monographic series. If the bibliographic record is the result of original cataloging at LC, do not give a Work: authorized access point for work for the series. LC does not give "controlled" access points for series in new LC original cataloging bibliographic records; does not update series authorized access points in existing bibliographic records; and does not consult, make, or update series authority records. LC will "pass through" the series information already in bibliographic records used by LC as copy.

PCC practice: Searching for series authority records, tracing the series, and the creation and maintenance of series authority records are optional. For recording the relationship between the series statement and the manifestation being described, see Work: issue of.
