Record the element if feasible for certain types of audio carriers. Where possible, prefer recording one or more of the more specific element subtypes instead. For guidance and examples consult Supplements to Best Practices for Music Cataloging Using RDA and MARC21 , Supplement 1: Guidelines for Describing and Encoding Attributes of Audio Recording Carriers.

In MARC: For audio carriers: Record as an identifier using field 007 (sound recording) byte 10.
Condition Option
LC/PCC practice: For subordinate materials (e.g., accompanying materials, kits, etc.), use cataloger's judgment when a detailed description of carrier characteristics is desired.
LC practice: For moving image materials with multiple carriers (1 film reel; 1 videocassette, etc.) no material type is predominant. Use cataloger's judgment in applying the option to record multiple material types.
Recording an unstructured description

Apply the option if no appropriate controlled term is available.

In MARC: For audio carriers, record an appropriate value from the MARC specifications for field 007 (sound recordings).
