Prerecording

Prerecording

Routinely record the element.

Recording

Recording

In MARC: Record as an unstructured description using field 245 subfield $b and field 246 or 740 as appropriate. See Supplements to Best Practices for Music Cataloging Using RDA and MARC21 Supplement 2: Recording Parallel Data Using ISBD in MARC and Minimally Punctuated MARC for additional guidance and examples.

See examples in MARC format: parallel title proper . For related examples see also: title proper ; title of manifestation ; variant title of manifestation

Parallel titles from any source in the resource may be transcribed in field 245 $b or $c, without square brackets. Parallel titles should also be encoded in field 246 with indicators 31 to ensure proper indexing.

Parallel titles from a different source than the title proper may alternatively be given only in field 246 1_ with an introductory phrase in subfield $i, rather than in field 245.

Condition Option

Apply the option.

In MARC: Record a note in field 500 or an introductory phrase in field 246 1_ subfield $i. Use of 246 $i may be preferable when multiple parallel titles appear in different sources, making precise data provenance difficulty to clearly convey in a single note.

Condition Option

Apply the option. Additionally record all other values for the element from the chosen source of information if feasible.

Condition Option

Apply the option in cases where values are linguistically neutral or otherwise lack corresponding values for related elements in the same language.

If feasible, transcribe all values for the element appearing on the chosen source of information. Optionally, record values from elsewhere in the resource if deemed useful for identification or selection.

Condition Option

Apply the option. Group values for related elements together by language where possible.

If feasible, transcribe all values for the element appearing on the chosen source of information. Optionally, record values from elsewhere in the resource if deemed useful for identification or selection.

Medium of performance, key, etc.

Condition Option

Apply the option unless reading the elements in order would produce an illogical result, or it is otherwise clear from the space, layout, typography, etc. that the elements are intended to be read in a different order.

See Supplements to Best Practices for Music Cataloging Using RDA and MARC21 Supplement 2: Recording Parallel Data Using ISBD in MARC and Minimally Punctuated MARC for additional guidance and examples.
