OLAC Best Practice for accessibility content
Prerecording
Prerecording
Apply the option for videodiscs, streaming video and objects when readily available.
Recording
Recording an unstructured description
Option
Provide a free text note to record
details when known, such as: tactile assistive features on objects (e.g. braille on
the container); when accessibility content applies to only a portion of the resource
(e.g., closed captions for a video that appears for the main feature, but not the
bonus content); if special equipment is required to access accessibility content; or
if a container indicates accessibility content that is not present in the resource.
For sign language in a video, provide specific information if known, such as the
nature of the sign language included in the resource; the sign system (e.g. American
Sign Language, British Sign Language); how much of the content is signed and if
signing is the sole medium of communication, or if it is used in conjunction with
other mediums. For streaming media, follow PCC Provider-Neutral E-Resource MARC Record Guidelines. Record the name of the provider that this information applies
to. Record only accessibility content that is specific to the resource and not
features that are generated on the fly. (For the language of accessibility content,
such as the language of captions, see Expression: language of expression).
Recording a structured description
Option
Record the assistive features of the
content using a controlled vocabulary such as
Schema.org Accessibility Properties for Discoverability
Vocabulary (SAPDV)
(see the accessibilityFeature property). For streaming media, follow PCC Provider-Neutral E-Resource MARC Record Guidelines. Record the name of the provider that this statement applies to. Record only
accessibility content that is specific to the resource, and not features that are
generated on-the fly. (For the language of accessibility content, such as the
language of captions, see Expression: language of expression.)
Option
Include the code for the vocabulary used
from the
LC Accessibility Content Source Codes
.
