extent of manifestation

Definition and Scope

A number and type of unit or subunit of a manifestation.

Prerecording

A unit includes a volume, audiocassette, film reel, a map, a digital file, etc.

A subunit includes a page of a volume, a frame of a microfiche, a record in a digital file, etc.

Record a duration (i.e., playing time, running time, performance time, etc.) as an Expression: duration.

NLNZ PS

NLNZ does not consider a map to be a unit of extent of manifestation.

Recording

NLNZ PS

Record as: unstructured description; structured description. See NLNZ guidance.

Use options on this element page to determine the appropriate numbers, units and subunits to include in the final value, then go to NLNZ SES for string encoding scheme instructions.

Early printed resources; Special printed resources: Apply the options for this element with DCRM; however, do not use abbreviations or square brackets.

CiP: record a value of pages or online resource and do not follow further instructions on this page.

Recording a unstructured description

Record a number of units and a term for each kind of unit that comprises a manifestation.
